In a Thrive Global survey of 5,000 Americans about coronavirus\npain points, over 90% of respondents said that the outbreak has them concerned\nabout the health of their elderly parents or family members. That concern is\nwell-placed: The CDC reports that along with those who are immuno-compromised\nor have previous health conditions, older people are among the most vulnerable\nto the virus. But if you\u2019re\nstruggling with not being able to hold your parents\u2019 hands or give them a hug\nduring these uncertain times, know that there are ways to support and care for\nthem while maintaining a safe distance. For example, you can help your parents\navoid crowds by picking up extra food and supplies next time you venture out to\nthe grocery store. If you live far away and aren\u2019t able to drop off groceries\nat your parents\u2019 place, you can order food and\/or supplies online and have it\ndelivered to their doorstep \u2013 something they may be hesitant or unsure of how\nto do themselves. Keep in mind that, depending on where they live, delivery\nslots may be hard to lock down, so you\u2019ll have to be persistent. If they don\u2019t have\nthat much in stock at home, you can offer to help by refilling their\nprescription at the pharmacy (you can do this by phone!) and picking up the\nmedication if you\u2019re local. And if you\u2019re not, you can look into prescription\ndelivery or mail-order services as a means to get the correct meds into your\nparents\u2019 hands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more detailed ideas on how to help your parents out, look to these\nMicrosteps: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Call your parents to ask how they\u2019re preparing. <\/strong>Check in to ask how they\u2019re doing and gauge their\nawareness, preparation, and how they\u2019re feeling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pick up extra food and supplies for your parents next time you go grocery\nshopping<\/strong>. If they\u2019re at higher risk, help them avoid crowds by adding them to your\nregular grocery run.
