Leaders of the Southern and Middle Belt Forum have expressed\nshock and outrage at the complacency of the Nigerian security forces at the\ninvasion of their areas by teenagers from the northern part of Nigeria, hidden\nin containers and trailers, in spite of the ban on interstate movements by\nPresident Muhammadu Buhari, Northern Governors Forum and governors in the South\nand Middle Belt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement signed by Chief Edwin Clark for Pan Niger\nDelta Forum (Pandef), Chief Olu Adebanjo for Afenifere, Chief John Nnia Nwodo\nfor Ohaneze and Dr Bitrus Porgu for The Middle Belt Congress, they described the\ninflux as \u201cominous development\u201d, that is coming after Boko Haram threatened\nopenly three weeks ago, that they were going to take their battle against\nNigeria to the South East and South South.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The leaders of these Pan Nigerian leadership forum said that\nthis was very worrisome development in view of the quietness of the national\nsecurity organizations, the national Covid-19 committee and the presidency\nsince the story broke out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Accordingly, they said, \u201cThis development has brought about\nvery strong suspicions amongst our people regarding the aim of the deployment\nof these young men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTheir capacity to escape all border security checks until\nthey reach many States in the South and Middle Belt points to a strong\ncollaboration. God forbid that the Boko Haram threat is being surreptitiously\nexecuted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The leaders of the Southern and Middle Belt leaders said\nthat they will certainly not fold their arms and \u201callow massive influx of\nyouths who have no reason to flout extant laws on interstate movements, no\npressing national engagement in our areas, no verifiable occupation, no tests\nfor Covid-19 and no pre-arranged accommodation to come and forcibly occupy our\nforests and perhaps prosecute the threat of Boko Haram.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They also expressed their shock on the silence of the\nfederal government, describing it as is \u201cominous\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to them, \u201cThe maneuvers appear deliberately\nplanned and provocative. We will resist any threats of invasion and the\nsecurity of our lives and property with every amount of self help available to\nus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo avoid further descent to an uncontrollable situation, we\ncall on the Federal government to publicly declare this invasion illegal,\ndirect our National Security Organizations to flush them out now and ensure\nthat they do not return.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They recalled that not too long ago, General Theophilus\nDanjuma warned Southerners and Middle Belt to be ready for self help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Accordingly, they asked, \u201cWe hope that his predictions have\nnot become inevitable and that our nation can be saved a slide into lawlessness\nand its disastrous consequences.
