{"id":1769,"date":"2020-06-01T03:56:13","date_gmt":"2020-06-01T02:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/towncryyers.com\/?p=1769"},"modified":"2020-06-01T03:56:17","modified_gmt":"2020-06-01T02:56:17","slug":"protests-over-death-of-george-floyd-police-killings-spread-to-london-berlin-toronto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/towncryyers.com\/index.php\/2020\/06\/01\/protests-over-death-of-george-floyd-police-killings-spread-to-london-berlin-toronto\/","title":{"rendered":"Protests Over Death Of George Floyd, Police Killings Spread To London, Berlin, Toronto"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By William Booth and Loveday Morris (Washington Post)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Street protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis went global over the weekend, as demonstrators in London, Berlin and Toronto gathered under banners declaring that Black Lives Matter and called for an end to police brutality in the United States and around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In London, hundreds defied rules against large gatherings Sunday to rally at Trafalgar Square and mass outside the new U.S. Embassy on the south bank of the River Thames, where they chanted \u201cno justice, no peace\u201d in solidarity with the U.S. movement against racial bias in the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Demonstrators there and in Berlin waved signs reading \u201cI can\u2019t breathe\u201d \u2014 some of the last words that the dying Floyd, captured by an onlooker\u2019s video, gasped out in Minneapolis as a police officer pressed his knee down on Floyd\u2019s neck for more than eight minutes on May 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Four Minneapolis police officers have been fired over Floyd\u2019s death. Derek Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public\u2019s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe want to see de-escalation of all of those tensions and Americans come together,\u201d Raab told the BBC on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Raab told Sky News that he wanted to see the United States \u201ccome back together\u201d and \u201cnot tear itself apart over this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Berlin, demonstrators gathered Sunday for a second day to protest Floyd\u2019s killing.
