{"id":3221,"date":"2020-10-19T08:12:27","date_gmt":"2020-10-19T07:12:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/towncryyers.com\/?p=3221"},"modified":"2020-10-19T08:12:32","modified_gmt":"2020-10-19T07:12:32","slug":"nigerian-traders-protest-ghanas-delay-to-reopen-shops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/towncryyers.com\/index.php\/2020\/10\/19\/nigerian-traders-protest-ghanas-delay-to-reopen-shops\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian Traders Protest Ghana\u2019s Delay to Reopen Shops"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Adedayo Akinwale<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Nigeria Union of Traders Association in Ghana (NUTAG) embarked on a protest at the weekend over Ghanaian authorities\u2019 delay to reopen shops owned by Nigerians in that country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The President of NUTAG, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nnaji, who led the protest told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview that Ghanaian authorities refused to reopen their shops since 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that the Ghanaian authorities\u2019 refusal to open the traders\u2019 shops was despite meetings between top officials of both governments of Nigeria and Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the protest was to press the Ghanaian authorities to reopen their shops, to enable them to tackle economic challenges amid COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the shops locked for over one year should be reopened to enable the traders to return to normal businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He urged the Nigerian government to evacuate willing traders to Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nnaji said: \u201cI am in talks in with my leader, Mr. Ken Okoha, National President of Nigerian Traders, and he has assured us that he will take our case up to the highest level in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn fact, plans are on for him to move to institutions that are related to trade; I have known him for five years now and I know what he is able to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am rest assured that the leadership of Nigerian traders are working towards achieving this goal; some of you, who still have funds, should also continue to help other traders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBe law-abiding citizens, COVID-19 is still on and lots of businesses are affected;
