These were some of the themes that ran through their stories. Please consider this list and add some components of your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Vision:<\/strong>\u00a0Hold a grand vision of what your partnership can be and roll up your sleeves to get to work to manifest that vision.<\/li><li><strong>Define Romance:<\/strong>\u00a0People have different ideas about romance. Be sure to have conversations defining what romance means to you so you can manifest what you are longing for.<\/li><li><strong>Commitment:<\/strong>\u00a0Commit each day and demonstrate that commitment.<\/li><li><strong>Interests<\/strong>:\u00a0Have an interesting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/ca\/basics\/career\">career<\/a>, hobbies, and areas of interest to keep each individual lively.<\/li><li><strong>Adventure:<\/strong>\u00a0Keep your sense of adventure alive, try new things, and take risks.<\/li><li><strong>Listening:<\/strong>\u00a0Listen deeply.<\/li><li><strong>Curiosity:\u00a0<\/strong>Be curious with the wonder of a child.<\/li><li><strong>Questions:<\/strong>\u00a0Ask questions that show your sincere interest.<\/li><li><strong>Healing:<\/strong>\u00a0Heal all past wounds.<\/li><li><strong>Learning:<\/strong>\u00a0Keep learning and growing. When you remain interesting your partner will be interested in you. Having an interesting career, hobbies, and other areas of interest keep each individual lively. And therefore, they bring their happy interesting self to their partner.<\/li><li><strong>Privacy:\u00a0<\/strong>Honor your partner&#8217;s\u00a0privacy by spending time apart.<\/li><li><strong>Staying Power<\/strong>:\u00a0Don&#8217;t quit during the hard segments of the partnership.<\/li><li><strong>Honesty:<\/strong>\u00a0Be honest and trustworthy.<\/li><li><strong>Agreements:<\/strong>\u00a0Keep agreements, big ones like fidelity, and even the small ones count.<\/li><li><strong>Tolerance:<\/strong>\u00a0Be tolerant and accepting of your partner\u2019s shortcomings.<\/li><li><strong>Good news:<\/strong>\u00a0Focus on your partner\u2019s assets and strengths.<\/li><li><strong>Respect.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Conflict Management\u00a0:<\/strong>\u00a0Arguments can be enlivening and exciting. Those who are conflict-avoidant can repress emotions with a result of flattening the relationship. Disappointments, frustrations, hurts, and grievances need to be brought forward. Only then can the couple negotiate to have their needs met. Respectful airing of differences breathes passion into the partnership, keeping the romantic quotient high.<\/li><li><strong>No threats or ultimatums<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Forgiveness:<\/strong>\u00a0Be willing to forgive past transgressions.<\/li><li><strong>Myths<\/strong>:\u00a0Examine your beliefs to find if there are limiting ones that may be detracting from having an excellent partnership.<\/li><li><strong>Self-revelation:<\/strong>\u00a0Reveal rather than conceal; express rather than repress.<\/li><li><strong>Secrets:<\/strong>\u00a0No secrets or lies.<\/li><li><strong>Needs:<\/strong>\u00a0Tell your partner what you need.<\/li><li><strong>Attractiveness:<\/strong>\u00a0Stay attractive.<\/li><li><strong>Humor:<\/strong>\u00a0Humor is associated with novelty and the unexpected and will bring lightness and fun.<\/li><li><strong>Stretch<\/strong>:\u00a0Stretch into your partner\u2019s world if you possibly can.<\/li><li><strong>Sex<\/strong>:\u00a0Refine your sexual relationship for maximum pleasure. Making love in a place in the house other than your regular bed adds sparkle.<\/li><li>\u00a0<strong>Intimacy: <\/strong>Non-sexual intimacy is a deep knowing of each other, the innermost parts of each other.\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>\u00a0Gratitude:<\/strong> Express gratitude for the way your partner enriches your life.The above characteristics of couples that keep romance alive over decades can be yours.\u00a0<\/li><li>Please don\u2019t be confined to this list. If there are other items that you can give yourself credit for, by all means do so. And if there are attitudes and behaviors that you identify as those areas where you need to improve, by all means note those.\u00a0<\/li><li>It\u2019s unlikely that you would get a perfect score of 100% by checking off every item on the list, but it\u2019s a worthy goal to master each one over the years together. It requires some work on our parts to be eligible for such a passionate, long-term romance.
