{"id":8750,"date":"2024-05-28T11:50:24","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T10:50:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/towncryyers.com\/?p=8750"},"modified":"2024-05-28T11:50:29","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T10:50:29","slug":"sanusi-lamido-sanusi-and-the-conquered-tribes-of-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/towncryyers.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/28\/sanusi-lamido-sanusi-and-the-conquered-tribes-of-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanusi Lamido Sanusi And The Conquered Tribes of Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recent controversy about the origin of some Obas and kingdoms in Yorubaland\u00a0with regards to\u00a0the Oba of Benin has brought to the fore the disadvantages of not teaching history in primary and secondary schools.\u00a0But if\u00a0history\u00a0as we presently know it, or as it\u00a0is wantonly skewed\u00a0on social media, is taught in primary and secondary schools, we will probably be dealing with\u00a0a lot of\u00a0inaccurate accounts of what factfully and truthfully happened centuries ago.\u00a0This\u00a0is because most writers try to rewrite untrue accounts in ways that promote their culture and tribe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not long ago, I read a post on Facebook where the&nbsp;writer&nbsp;who&nbsp;is&nbsp;Igbo&nbsp;was questioning&nbsp;the origin story of kingdoms in Delta State who&nbsp;mostly&nbsp;trace their origin to the Benin Kingdom.&nbsp;These kingdoms include supposedly &#8220;Igbo Kingdoms&#8221; from Delta North to even across the Niger River. The writer cited language dissimilarities as evidence and could not believe the follow-follow nature of these kingdoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this said, some historical accounts are not controversial or in doubt.
