It is impossible to overstate how much, and how quickly, the\ncoronavirus crisis has changed the ways in which we work and live. The COVID-19\noutbreak affects every aspect of our lives \u2014 our health, families, careers,\nfinances, and more \u2014 and while everyone is experiencing this moment in their\nown way, the global scale of the crisis means the impact is universal. This\nmuch is clear: everyone is affected. And everyone needs support. That is why\nSAP and Qualtrics opened up the XM Platform to create a free Remote Work Pulse.\nIt is a real-time barometer that helps every organization understand how their\nemployees are doing, what they need, and how they can help employees feel\nsupported and productive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is all part of the robust conversation about adjusting to\nour new work-from-home reality \u2014 the stress, the distractions, the loneliness.\nIn a national study of over 5,000 U.S. employees conducted by Thrive Global,\n80% feel helpless and like things are out of their control. Even more \u2014 85% \u2014\nwish their employer would do more to help them adapt and manage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But we\u2019re also faced with a reality: the world does not stop\nmoving. Even \u2014 and sometimes especially \u2014 in times of crisis. People need\nsupport now more than ever, and the only way to support them in meaningful ways\nis to understand the experience data, or what we call \u201cX-data\u201d \u2014 the feelings,\nsentiments, anxieties, and lived experiences of employees as they navigate this\nnew normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understanding, acknowledging, and acting on the challenges\nand questions our employees have will help us equip them to feel safe and\nproductive. Global studies show \u2014 and many of us are finding out \u2014 that working\nfrom home doesn\u2019t necessarily make it easier to get the sleep and exercise we\nneed, disconnect from technology, and reduce stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In just a few days over 6,000 organizations have signed up\nfor the free Remote Work Pulse. Armed with the sentiment of their workforce in\na separated world, these organizations are shifting their focus from awareness\nto action. That\u2019s where \u201cWorking From Home in the New Normal\u201d \u2014 a new\ndata-driven initiative from SAP, Qualtrics and Thrive Global \u2014 comes in. Each\nday, powered by the Qualtrics XM Platform, we will highlight specific actions\nor Microsteps employees can take to navigate the new normal. For instance,\nyou\u2019ll get tips on how to balance work and parenting when you and your kids are\nhome during the day, how to work from home with your partner, how to build a\nwork-from-home morning routine that works for you, and much more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our goal with this is to create a trusted destination that\nprovides insights and Microsteps we can all take \u2014 as individuals, teammates,\nmanagers, leaders; and as friends, siblings, parents, and even children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our ability to navigate this crisis hinges on how effectively\nwe\u2019re listening to and taking action on data-backed insights. We need to close\nthe gap between our assumptions or past knowledge and what our people are\nactually experiencing. We already know they need support getting their new home\nworkspaces set up. We know they need I.T. support with video conferencing,\nSlack, and the communication tools they depend on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But do we know which moments in their new \u201cnormal\u201d are\ncausing them undue stress? Do we know which employees are struggling to unplug\nand recharge when outlets like going out to dinner aren\u2019t possible? Do we know\nwhich employees are suffering from mental health struggles due to anxiety or\nfearing for the lives and livelihoods of loved ones?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no blueprint for how we as individuals, teams, and\nmanagers should be acting in this new normal. The crisis is still unfolding,\nbut we have an immediate responsibility and opportunity to gain an even deeper\nunderstanding of our most important asset: our people. Every leader and manager\nshould be asking their teams the following questions right now: How are you\ndoing? What do you need? What could we be doing better?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We know that this situation is unpredictable, and that the\nchallenges that come with this are real and unfamiliar. It\u2019s our hope that the\nRemote Work Pulse will help organizations take action to support their people\nand that the Microsteps we share each day are helpful as we navigate a\nsituation that\u2019s ever-changing.
