This was communicated in a\nfootage shared by Femi Gbajabiamila, the House of Representatives Speaker, on\ntwitter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have in the House of Representatives jointly committed in contributing\n100 per cent of our salaries for the next two months to the fight of COVID-19\nin Nigeria,\u201d Gbajabiamila said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the donation will be to \u201csupport the provision for the welfare of\nthe frontline medical professionals and health workers and other interventions\nto provide for the well-being of Nigerians through this trying time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gbajabiamila said all the salaries will be transferred to the relief funds\naccount. While the amount each member earns is not made public, there are a\ntotal of 360 members in the house. The Green Chamber financial\ncontribution comes after several wealthy Nigerians and organizations have\ndonated to the same course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The United Bank for Africa (UBA) announced Thursday a donation of 5 billion\nNaira to provide beds for isolation centers, intensive care unit facilities and\ndirect access to medical advice to up to 450,000 citizens every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wealthy businessmen and captains of industries including Femi Otedola,\nAbdulsamad Rabiu, Herbert Wigwe, Segun Agbaje and Aliko Dangote, Africa\u2019s\nrichest man, all contributed 1 billion Naira each to support the government in\ncurtailing the pandemic in Nigeria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Timileyin Omilana Nigeria\u2019s House of Representatives members have resolved to donate all of their salaries to fight the pandemic coronavirus.
