When Osinachi Kalu Joseph popularly called Sinach was introduced to sing at the world-renowned Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas some years ago, the announcer told worshipers about Sinach’s accomplishments which include having more than 100 million views on her song, Way Maker on YouTube. He also mentioned that Sinach was named among one of the most reputable people in the world alongside Oprah Winfrey and the Queen of England. The song Way Maker has been covered by many internationally renowned gospel artists and has blessed the lives of Christian worshippers who easily connects to the lyrics that truthfully call GOD – Way Maker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper and Light in the darkness. These words resonate with believers and even unbelievers.
Last week, we found out that Sinach has raised her bar of excellence and accomplishments a notch higher by topping the Billboard Gospel Songwriters list. Before this milestone, Way Maker, the song that gave Sinach this accolade has been a national anthem in many churches globally. Many Christian citizens of the United States use this song to encourage and inspire themselves amid COVID-19. Growing up as a chorister in my local church in Delta State, Nigeria, my choir covered songs of many gospel artists from the United States, today Sinach’s songs are routinely covered in many churches around the world. In September 2019, Sinach became the first gospel artist from Africa to tour India, headlining concerts with several thousand in attendance. Sinach’s achievements also include performing in concerts in over 50 countries including Kenya, Dominica, South Africa, United States, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Grenada, Uganda, Barbados, The British Virgin Islands, Zambia, Saint Maarten, and the United Kingdom
The question you might want to ask is, how did this unknown girl from Nigeria become a world-class star? The first thing to note is that Sinach has been actively writing, singing, and worshipping GOD since 1994 (26 years). She like many world-renowned musicians have been consistently developing their talents for many years before the world took note and rewarded their consistency and hard work. As John Heywood, the English playwright said centuries ago, “Rome was not built in a day, but they were laying bricks every hour”. What are you doing with your talent? Everyone has at least one talent that has been given to us by God to make us relevant, successful, and happy. Your responsibility is to discover, develop, and deploy this talent to bless humanity. Many talented people discover and develop their talents but very few are disciplined enough to be consistent for decades. This is what separates Sinach and other world greats like Serena Williams. Talent, like the leadership guru John C. Maxwell famously said, is never enough. So, as we celebrate Sinach, start strategizing on how to bless the world with your gifts consistently.
