During my undergraduate years, I quickly came to terms with a new understanding of who is a fine boy, or the type of guy that attracts the most attractive girls. Before now, my understanding of what attracted beautiful girls was based on looks and books. On campus, I felt the handsome boys got the most beautiful girls by their looks. Then I felt that these guys who nature has favored were closely followed by guys who got girls because they were good with their books. For a long time, the truism of this theory was unquestioned in my mind and observation. But by my second year on Africa’s most beautiful campus at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, I saw a trend that I eventually penned in a poem titled: A Car And A Woman. This poem attracted a lot of criticism from campus girls. The poem was torn several times in the campus board magazine called Sphinx Media at the entrance of Amphitheatre basement lectures Hall. The poem was inspired by my observation that pointed to the fact all the guys that have cars on campus have good looking girlfriends. One day at the restaurant called Fork & Fingers in the Student Union Building, my observations and inferences got their conclusion. I saw a beautiful girl drooling over her male companion while he was eating. I then concluded that this guy must own a car. So, I waited after finishing my meal to see if the guy actually owns one. Unsurprisingly, on following them outside, I saw that the guy owns a car. That day I wrote the poem and concluded that a fine boy on campus is no longer a handsome guy, but a rich guy who owns a car.
In the years that have passed, matters are worse. Good looking men are routinely ignored and dumped for the Adams Oshiomholes and Ned Nwokos. Looks, age, and all other physical embellishments can no longer contest the lures of wealth and the promise of the “good life” that accompanies being married to a wealthy man. I recently came across a post where the millionaire Ned Nwoko boasted that he married his actress wife Regina Daniels just 3 weeks after meeting her. The reality TV star Princess recently declared on Instagram she is done with dating for love. And now only available for self-investment/intensive funding. And replied a comment by a fan who asked if Ned Nwoko should apply with the revelation that Ned Nwoko wooed her when she was younger but she was foolish to have turned him down. The fact that Ned Nwoko already has 6 wives does not diminish his eligibility to beautiful women. For financially dependent men, this trend is a big threat to their ability to find true love in a beautiful woman. Because increasingly, the beautiful ones are outside their reach and have been taken by the rich.
Gone are the days when women believed their Pastors’ homilies that financial windfalls accompany marriage. This incomplete misinformation has actually ruined a lot of homes and lives because money issues are one of the dominant challenges of married life according to most research. As much as it is reprehensive for women to give their hearts to the highest bidder, it is equally unreasonable for men to expect women to give their hearts without some form of assurance. Even in the animal kingdom that does not have the type of societal underpinnings that encourages the above, females still make their choice of mate by financial considerations. Most mammals succumb to their male suitors who have displayed considerable evidence to provide and protect them and their offspring. Most men these days are very selective based on the financial prospects of the females within their reach. Hence, we can now begin to understand why Ned Nwoko has a harem of beautiful wives and many more beautiful women are waiting on the sidelines to become his new bride. So, in all your gettings get wisdom, but know money answereth all things. Plan your life knowing, legitimately acquired riches will extend your reach into the best life has to offer.
