Why Buhari Must Go Now Now!

Muhammadu Buhari
Muhammadu Buhari

The funeral ceremony and the cries of the loved ones of the dead from the NAF Plane Crash reminded me of one of Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s songs that says, “…dem leave sorrow, tears, and blood, dem regular trademark…”. If you still support Buhari or think he should still be president till his tenure expires in 2023, then I guess you have not experienced sorrow, tears, and blood that is a direct consequence of the gross incompetence of Muhammadu Buhari. I often struggle to find superlatives to decrease the decadence we have experienced as a nation since a section of us decided that a man who has clearly shown his disdain for democracy and support for terrorists is the one to guide us into an era of peace and prosperity.

The cries of the bereaved from Borno to Benue State who have experienced the full weight of Buhari’s misadventure as a Fulani president is beginning to catch up with individuals who aided and abetted Buhari’s enthronement. But this is not enough! Every day many Nigerians still lose their lives and properties as a direct consequence of the breakdown of law and order occasioned by Buhari’s gross ineptitude and irresponsibility. This irresponsibility was in full display as he jettisoned his responsibility as commander-in-chief of the armed forces. He could not commute 15 minutes to pay the last respect to his army chiefs. If by now you do not know the inhumanity and callousness of the man in Aso rock, then you need a rock to wake you up.

Time is up for Buhari, and we must not wait any longer. We must not exit 2021 without showing Buhari the exit door. For those who still benefit from this administration and are ready to stick with him, they will most likely be like the fly that sticks with a dead body as it is lowered into the earth. For Buhari’s kinsmen, he has done untold harm to Nigerians perception about Fulanis, and the earlier they help to push him out the better for them. For Hausas who continues to be used and abused in the unholy marriage of convenience that has aided a few like Dangote and impoverished millions, Buhari’s exit will mark a new opportunity to reestablish their ancient Hausa kingdom where agriculture, commerce, and industry was their mainstay.
