Some years ago, I had a heated debate about the performance of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with a lecturer and geologist from the Federal University, Lokoja. He accused Jonathan of many offenses that included him being a drunk who does not have the daily soberness to properly scrutinize documents that are brought before him. One of the absurdities of this argument was that the university where he earns his daily bread was established by President Goodluck in a state that ordinarily does not have the political clout to attract a federal university. Another reason for my annoyance was that Buhari had shown his true colours before, during, and after his short stint as head of state. Yet millions of Nigerians voted to enthrone a certified terrorist sympathizer whose kinsman Nasir El Rufai and eventual sponsor Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier declared unfit for leadership.
Clergymen like Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka and Pastor Tunde Bakare would have quoted scriptures to support how God uses unbelievers, to cajole their gullible followers. Renowned professors showcased their lexicon in their bid to malign the character of the gentleman President. Journalists from the late Tony Momoh to the presently enjoying John Momoh who is a major beneficiary of the spoils of this bloodied administration sold their souls and objectivity while fabricating headlines and giving their platforms to irrational thinkers and talkers. Civil rights activists actively participated in the brainwashing of Nigerians to choose a former dictator instead of the most civilized President Nigeria has ever had. Some won international awards, while others gained local appointments for their efforts like embattled NPA boss – Hadiza Bala Usman.
Youths like Tolu Ogunlesi and J.J. Omojuwa insulted the living daylight out of President Jonathan to gain appointments and upward mobility that has brought Nigeria downward. Today, Nigerians know better, but I pray it is not too late for us. The recent events in Nigeria make a better prophet of President Goodluck Jonathan than many of the celebrated but blind prophets in Nigeria. With what is happening to those who played key roles in enthroning the plague called Muhammadu Buhari like the corruption charges and dethronement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, I am still not satisfied. The cries of those killed by Fulani herdsmen in the middle belt, the anguish of mothers who have lost their sons to Boko Haram fighting for the corrupt and nepotized Nigerian Army, the pain of parents like Leah Sharibu’s and the scars of Nigerian women kidnapped and raped by kidnappers empowered by the incompetence of the grand patron of Miyetti Allah should rise to the heavens for vengeance. The family of those who has reaped and continues to reap from the blood of Nigerians should feel personally the plague that is ravaging the masses in Nigeria. The drunkard from Otuoke, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan whose concession of power in 2015 prevented the initial bloodshed planned by Buhari, El Rufai, and others, is the best President of Nigeria taking into consideration what he achieved with the economy, education, independence of INEC, and the autonomy of the legislature and judiciary. He was not a perfect President, but he is the best human being to ever call himself a politician in Nigeria.
